Millfield's very own Museum of Antiquities opened its doors for the first time this week. The children of Middle Phase proudly displayed their Ancient Egyptian projects to each other and to their parents. There was a huge variety of projects to see - intricate gold masks, sarcophagi, maps, cartouches with hieroglyphs, leaflets and posters to name but a few. It's clear that the children have learned a great deal about Ancient Egypt this term, and we were delighted to see how much time and effort has been put in at home to make such beautiful pieces of work. All the children gathered comments about their work in a feedback booklet, and they will receive a certificate celebrating their hard work.
Thank you to all parents and carers who supported their child in completing a project, and to all those who visited the children this afternoon. It was a lovely way to round off this term's learning.
World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March was a huge success with most children and staff getting into the spirit by dressing up as a popular book character. The children worked in phase groups undertaking a day's activities based on books and reading. At our sharing assembly that afternoon we got to see everyone's costume and hear about what the children had been doing including creating 3D scenes from books, imagining their own fantasy lands the other side of the wardrobe, book reviews, paired reading between younger and older children and seeing if they could design a boat to carry the Gingerbread Man. At lunch time lots of children enjoyed eating a special book themed lunch provided by Norse. Thank you to all the parents who helped provide their child with such fantastic costumes - everyone had a great day!
