At Millfield Primary School, we strive to help our children develop into articulate and imaginative communicators, who are well-equipped with the basic skills they need to become life-long learners and are able to express their ideas clearly and creatively through the written word. We aim to ensure all of our children develop a genuine love of language and the written word, which results in children being able to speak, read and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others effectively.
Careful links are made across the curriculum to ensure that children’s English learning is relevant and meaningful: where possible linking our reading and writing to our learning themes. We aim to ensure that children develop an understanding of how widely writing is used in everyday life and, therefore, how important and useful the skills are that they are learning. We also intend to create writers who can read, edit and improve their own writing, and enable pupils to be able to confidently use the essential skills of grammar, punctuation and spelling. At Millfield, we set high expectations for all our children to take pride in their work and allow their imaginations to flourish.
