Apple Tree Class

Autumn Term in Reception

Welcome to Apple Tree Class! We are going to have so much fun! During the first 6 weeks we will be getting to know each other, learning the school routines and experiencing lots of new and exciting things...During week 2 the children will be learning their first few single letter sounds and perhaps even beginning to read simple words.

At the moment the weather is still very hot, so please remember to send your little ones in with a hat and water bottle. Could we also ask you to bring in a PE key before Friday the 15th of September.

On Friday the 8th of September we will be sending your child home with a book bag (unless they already have one). In the book bag you will find important information to read.

On Friday the 15th of September your child's book bag will also contain a phonics book, reading record book and a story book for you to read to your child. The phonics book will contain all the sounds that we have learned during the week; please could you help your child to practice reading these. Tucked in the reading record book you will find a book to read to your child and a wordless book for you to explore together ..can your child tell about the illustrations? Can they talk about what might be happening? Can they guess what might happen next? These are all very important skills which will help your child to read books with words in the future. Once you have read the books, please could you write a comment in the reading record book, just so we know you have read them, because we will only change the books once we have confirmation that they have been read. Please can your child bring their book bags, with the reading books, record and phonics books in everyday, as we will need to hear the children read at school too. I know it's a lot to do and remember, but reading regular will make a huge difference to your child's progress,  as reading is the key to all learning.

From the 18th of September the children will continue having a daily Read, Write Inc phonics lesson and they will begin to learn all about maths using White Rose Educational resources and Maths mastery.

In the afternoons we will support the children's interests through our 'In the moment' planning. Observing the children's interests and developing them in our nurturing classroom environment.

After lunch we will have a daily Yoga session and on Friday we will have a full PE lesson.

We can't wait to share the fun with you through Tapestry and our 'Focus child' observations.
