How will we support your child's emotional and social development?

We recognise that some children have extra emotional and social needs that need to be developed and nurtured. These needs can manifest themselves in a number of ways, including behavioural difficulties, anxiousness and being uncommunicative.

All classes follow a structured PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) curriculum to support this development. In addition, for those children who find aspects of this difficult we offer:

  • An in-school Nurture provision, run by a well qualified Nurture Lead Assistant with another further nurture assistant. This is based on the 'Nurtured Heart' approach which is embedded throughout the school. This approach places great emphasis on developing positive relationships using a common language and clear and consistent expectations. Children are supported through individual or small group programmes following concerns raised by their teachers or their parents.
  • A programme of 'Forest Schools' activities for all children in years R-4 with provision also available for identified children in years 5 and 6.
  • Lunch time and playtime support through planned activities and groups.
  • A Restorative approach to resolving conflict through discussion which is embedded throughout the school.
  • 'Post-boxes' for children to self-refer for help and support.
  • A Support Plan produced in consultation with the child and their parents, which sets out the approaches that need to be used to enable your child to make positive choices.
  • Sensory breaks/circuits during the day.
  • A 'toolbox' of strategies to help children to recognise how they are feeling and self-regulate their behaviour. (known as Zones of Regulation)
  • A programme of parent workshops and 'drop-in' sessions for advice or just because you 'need a chat'.

If your child requires further support, with your agreement we will access further support through Norfolk Early Intervention Hub and Family Support Process.
